Creepy Crawlers of Fall

Creepy Crawlers of Fall

It’s fall y’all… well, almost. In order to be prepared for the fall season, we are going to give you the inside scoop on this seasons pests. Fall in North Carolina is a time when things are just starting to cool down, and along with that comes pests looking for a warm place to stay. Here is a list of a few pests you might be seeing more of this fall.

  • Rodents: As the weather begins to get colder, pests like mice and rats are looking for a place to escape the cold temperatures. They do this by weaseling their way into your home and wreaking havoc on you and your family. In order to keep these pests out, make sure all doors and windows are shut and sealed properly.
  • Ants: Many different kinds of ants become a nuisance during the fall season, such as fire ants and carpenter ants. Fire ants can be a huge pain…literally. They build their nests close to buildings and sting when they feel their nest is being threatened. Carpenter ants can cause big problems for your home’s structural integrity. The nests and tunneling systems ants build within the walls of your home can literally cause wood to deteriorate.
  • Spiders: Although you may see a lot of spiders in the summer, fall is the time when spiders lay their eggs. After spending the whole summer maturing, as temperatures lower, female spiders spin their webs and reproduce. This means you may be seeing webs and spiders in places you hadn’t this summer.
  • Cockroaches: These pests have been around for millions of years and have adapted to living in even the harshest conditions, making them very difficult to eradicate. They are known to spread over 30 types of bacteria and can cause serious health conditions. Roaches are most prolific in warm and wet environments, near a steady food source, so be on the lookout this fall when they begin to seek a warmer environment.
  • Lady Bugs: Although these cute little bugs aren’t the most daunting, they can become a hard problem to eradicate in the fall months. Like many other pests, they are looking for a warm place to reside. Even though they may not be the most dangerous, they are difficult to remove once they’ve gathered in large numbers.
